The founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg announced that the corporate name of the social media platform will change to “Meta”. “From now on we are going to be Metaverse first, not Facebook,” said the founder during the company’s annual developer’s conference.
Zuckerberg said that the company will now be focusing on virtual reality products that connect users through a different medium. He predicted that about one billion people will be on the Metaverse in the next decade.
The company explained the metaverse as a three-dimensional virtual space where users can create avatars that represent them. They also explained that people can play video games, watch movies, attend concerts, collaborate with colleagues, and gather with friends without leaving their living room in the virtual world.
Zuckerberg said that they will be focusing on “privacy” and “safety” controls built the Metaverse from day one.
